Spruce Up Your Office Space This Spring
February 24, 2022With spring right around the corner, we all begin to think about spring cleaning around the house. What about your office space? Most of us spend at least eight hours a day at work, so it makes sense to spruce up this space. This is especially true if you have your own private office or workspace.
Harmful germs and bacteria can thrive in these more private office areas. One reason for this is less thorough cleanings compared to the rest of the office. Individuals typically do not clean or disinfect their areas frequently enough. They also eat and drink at their workstation, resulting in crumbs and spills that are not cleaned up properly. And let’s not forget dust mites and dirt build-up.
Additionally, due to the client’s request, these areas might not receive the attention they need from a professional cleaning company. These areas may only receive a light cleaning so as not to disturb an employee’s private workspace.
Whatever the reason, these areas should not be overlooked. So, where do you start with office spring cleaning? Here are some helpful tips.
Declutter Your Desktop
A good start would be to declutter your workspace. Get rid of old papers, books, and garbage lying around. You may even want to consider parting with any souvenirs that aren’t serving a purpose anymore. Also, bring back that pair of scissors you borrowed from Bob or that calculator Mary let you borrow.
Suppose you are nervous about filing away those papers you intend to keep because you may forget about them. No need to worry. Create a filing system that will keep them organized on top of your desk. This will help keep you organized, and the papers will remain handy.
Go through your desk and get rid of any old office supplies that don’t work or are almost gone. Replenish or invest in some new ones that work. Organize loose office supplies and take inventory of what you have and need. Maybe, if you’re feeling extra ambitious, take a vacuum to the inside of your desk drawers to remove any dust or debris. New supplies and organized, clean drawers will not only increase productivity but boost your morale!
Bring home any articles of clothing you may have brought in that you never seem to wear. Or those shoes that have been lying under your desk for months. Look around and see if there are more things you have brought in and can bring back home.
Clean and Disinfect Your Office Space
Now that you have decluttered your workspace and things are neatly tucked away, it’s time to clean and disinfect. Your office probably already has a professional cleaning company come in and do these tasks. However, they may not have been able to clean specific areas in offices due to clutter or it not being in the scope of their contract. This might be a good time to re-evaluate terms with your cleaning company and add a little spring cleaning to your contract.
If you prefer to clean your workspace yourself, be sure to pay close attention and use the right cleaners for specific surfaces. A professional cleaning company hires employees trained to know precisely what cleaning solution to use on what service without damaging it. Be sure to consult an expert if you’re unsure what to use.
