COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus is a global pandemic, quickly spreading across the continental US. In a matter of days, it has resulted in numerous Colleges and Universities sending their students home and converting to online classes, as well as the cancellation of NCAA tournaments and professional sporting events.
In this time of fear and uncertainty, it is important to look out for the health of yourself and others. According to the CDC, there is currently no known cure for COVID-19. So, the best way to remain safe is to prevent exposure to the virus. It is believed that the virus is airborne, meaning it can be caught without direct contact with an infected person. As a result, the virus can easily and rapidly spread from person-to-person.
Here are a few tips to help you prevent the spread of this troubling illness.
Avoid Touching Your Face
According to the CDC, touching your face is the quickest and most common way to catch a virus. Try being more conscious about the environment you are in and what you touch, especially in an office environment. Constantly sanitize your hands as well as your phone, computer, car, and anything you touch on a daily basis. Keep hand sanitizer close at all times and try to use it as much as possible before touching your face.
Wash Your Hands Consistently
Wash your hands as often as possible, especially while in public spaces. The CDC recommends using soap and warm water and scrubbing for at least 20 seconds to effectively kill any germs on your hands. Even after washing your hands, it’s important to still be mindful about touching your face.
Disinfect Frequently Used Spaces
In an office setting, employees should disinfect their personal work spaces including phones, keyboards and surfaces. Don’t forget your car, especially the door handles.
Regularly wipe down break room appliances, water fountains, bathrooms and door handles, which are common breeding grounds for germs. The CDC recommends cleaning all these things and more daily. Use soap and water to clean these surfaces prior to disinfecting.
If You Feel Sick, Stay Home
It is vital to stay at home if you start to feel any symptoms, even just a cough. Exercise prevention etiquette by covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing. Be sure to contact your doctor for further instruction. Staying home, wearing a face mask and avoiding any contact with others is the most effective way of preventing the spread of this, and any virus.
